Reminder: “Let It Snow” Means Free HVAC Equipment If It Snows on Christmas!

Monday, December 3rd, 2018

onyx-equipment-presentThis is Olive, doing my End of November Check-In to make sure you know about our big “Let It Snow” promotion.

Here’s the simple pitch: If it snows on Christmas this year, you get free HVAC equipment!

The longer pitch: If you purchase new HVAC equipment from us between now and December 20, 2018, and it snows more than two inches on Christmas Day (that’s as measured at McGhee Tyson Airport), then your purchase is free! That’s right, a total of zero dollars and zero cents, not a single dog biscuit!

Now as we’re getting closer to the Big Day and you’re doing some heavy thinking about shopping—such as shopping for a new heater and air conditioner—you may want to know a bit more about the odds. The current weather forecast from WVLT in Knoxville is predicting a 15% chance of snow on Christmas. Of course, that could go up in the next few weeks. But a 15% chance of getting a free HVAC system are good odds.

And there’s no downside, because no matter what, you end up with terrific new heating and cooling equipment to help see you through many years of comfort!

If you want more information about “Let It Snow” or to schedule any heating service in Maryville, TN or elsewhere in our service area, reach out to us today!

Stay Warm (But Hope for Snow!)

What Does It Take to Be HVAC Licensed in Tennessee?

Monday, May 21st, 2018

service-checkmarkPeople sometimes ask me: “What does it mean that Russell & Abbott is licensed?” It’s a good question, because we make a point of informing customers that we’re a fully licensed, bonded, and insured HVAC contractor. We want people to know they can trust us because licensing boards affirm that we know our stuff!

There are too many unlicensed workers out there (“Chuck in a Truck” as I like to call them) who offer cut-rate prices and end up delivering cut-rate work. Unlicensed work not only risks a sloppy job, it may even leave you liable for damages done to your home, or injuries to the unlicensed worker during the time he or she is on your property.

I talked about all this in my last post when I was going over the importance calling on true professionals for your air conditioning maintenance. Today, I’m going to offer you the specifics about getting an HVAC license in Tennessee. Every state has different requirements, and I know all the facts about what you need to be considered an HVAC professional in Maryville, TN!

We’ve Crossed the 700 Review Milestone!

Thursday, March 22nd, 2018

thumbs-upI like to think of modesty as an important virtue. Nobody likes a braggart! As a professional canine HVAC blogger, my job is to bring you honest information that really helps. Yes, I think our team at Russell & Abbott is fantastic and you should call them for any heating and cooling needs you have—but that’s because I know first-hand the skills they have and the customer service they offer. Like Walter Brennan said, “No brag, just fact.”

Okay, now that I’ve gotten that modesty stuff out of the way…

WOOO! WE HIT 700 RECOMMEND ME REVIEWS ON OUR SITE! WOOOO! AWESOME! [Strikes Lassie pose on top of scenic mountain cliff.]

It’s important to us that our customers are happy, and when 5-star reviews start pouring in, it means a lot to us. It shows we’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing: delivering quality results to locals that keep their homes comfortable all around the year. Our customer reviews show our customers are not only happy with the work our team does and their promptness and professionalism, but that they also appreciate the knowledge we provide to keep them in the loop. We know there are some shady contractors out there, but we always do what’s right and tell customers the truth.

Anyway, I expect will hit 1000 reviews pretty soon. In fact, when I last checked, we’d jumped up another 25 positive reviews.

Stay cool,

Olive

Comfort Club Membership Benefits: The Spring Pay-Off!

Tuesday, February 13th, 2018

tools-on-ac-unit“Wait a minute, Olive, it’s not spring yet—it’s still February.” Oh believe me, I know! I travel everywhere with a nice fur coat, but I can still feel the coldest days down in my skin. But it’s my job as HVAC blogger to always be looking a season ahead, sometimes two, and think about those days when having a black coat means having to pant a lot.

And when I think ahead a season, that puts me deep into spring and our warm, humid weather. I look all around me and hear the whirring sounds of the outdoor air conditioning units. My ears are so sensitive that I can tell which of those ACs haven’t yet received their spring maintenance tune-up just by the sounds they make. You don’t want to have one of those air conditioners that’s already wearing down so early in the year. Now is the time to think about maintenance.

It’s the job of our Comfort Club to see that your air conditioner is prepared for all the hot weather ahead with an early spring tune-up.

Thanksgiving Foods Are Dangerous to Pets

Tuesday, November 7th, 2017

fall-cornucopiaGetting out all those harvest decorations and making those plans for a big Thanksgiving Day feast? That’s great! And, and leftover Halloween candy? Never share it with your pets because it’s potentially harmful to them. And that’s my not-at-all-clumsy transition to talking about Thanksgiving Day food and your pets—because this food is often dangerous to animals and many people aren’t aware of it! Your pets may come begging for some of that delicious food you and your family and friends are eating, but many of those food items aren’t safe for them.

(Dear all dogs, cats, and other household animals who may be reading this: No, I’m not spoiling your fun by telling humans to avoid giving you all those tasty treats you can smell on the dinner table. This is truly for your health and safety.)

Top 2 Ways to Save Money on Air Conditioning This Summer

Monday, July 3rd, 2017

air-conditioning-grillHoo-boy, it’s starting to get warm. I know that it feels warmer to me because I’m a dog with a thick black coat and have to do all my sweating through my paws or by panting. But we’re only getting into the deeps of summer now, so I know that much hotter and more humid days are coming up, and all you humans are going to need your air conditioner running on a pretty regular basis.

And I also know—because air conditioners are part of my job—that this mean you humans will start to rack up some bigger electrical bills. Air conditioners account for a hefty chunk of any home’s electric use over summer, and there’s not much we can do to change that. But what we can change is the size of that chunk. And I’ve listed the two best ways to lower your costs this summer when it comes to air conditioning.

What You Should Know before You Buy a Wireless Thermostat

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017

thermostat-operationHere’s something important I’ve learned in my years as an HVAC dog (aside from which couch in the office is best for napping): HVAC work is about the big picture but also about the tiniest details. A technician needs to know how powerful an air conditioner or heater needs to be to provide proper comfort (Big Picture) but also have a grasp on how much difference a thermostat model can make to system performance (the details).

Admittedly, a thermostat isn’t a “detail.” It’s essential to communicating to the HVAC system. But we’ve often discovered customers looking at the thermostat as a cool doodad or gizmo and they want the fanciest one because it will do the best job. However, it just doesn’t work that way. There are some important things to understand before purchasing a wireless thermostat for your heating and air conditioning system in Maryville, TN.
