Let’s Talk Gas Furnace Safety: Combustion Analysis

Monday, November 5th, 2018

furnace-oldI have plenty of important roles as the HVAC blogger dog for Russell & Abbott and the community we serve. I keep people informed about ways to save energy with their air conditioning systems, how to improve their heating during the winter, ways to boost their air quality. I even occasionally offer advice about pets—hey, it’s the least I can do for my furry brothers and sisters!

But there’s no HVAC blogging job that’s more important to me, or a subject more important to our Russell & Abbott team than SAFETY. We want all of our customers to have HVAC systems that keep them safe as well as comfortable. That’s why we make combustion analysis an essential part of our service for furnaces.

Patriotism Never Goes Out of Style

Monday, June 4th, 2018

As our blogger dog, I wear many hats and many styles around the year. During the summers, I like to put on my Uncle Sam stovepipe hat, like you see here. But just because I wear this hat during summer doesn’t mean patriotism is only in fashion at one time of the year. The truth is that patriotism never goes out of style! That’s not just something I believe. It’s something all of us here at Russell & Abbott believe.

The Fourth of July—a.k.a. Independence Day—is a celebration of tradition, our families, our homes, and our service to God and country. These are all values that Russell & Abbott respects. After all, we’re in this business to be a service to the community—seeing that homes and families have the comfort they need. We take our community service seriously, and it extends to outside of the business: many of the members of our Russell & Abbott family are part of civic clubs and non-profit organizations.

Olive Recommends: Do Your Cold Weather Prep When the Weather Is Great

Tuesday, September 20th, 2016

I’ve been looking for the weather forecast for the next few weeks—a standard part of my daily routine as an HVAC expert dog—and, wow, but I’m going to get some great walking time in! With the exception of some scattered rainstorms (which I don’t mind that much), we’re going to be enjoying some fabulous weather, with highs in the 80s and lows in the upper 60s. It’s one of the most beautiful times of the year here in East Tennessee…

…and that also means people probably aren’t thinking much about their home heating systems or getting ready for winter weather. But this is actually one of the best times to think about it!

What You Should Know About Wi-Fi Enabled Thermostats

Tuesday, May 10th, 2016

Once again, I’m going to relinquish my column to guest blogger, MK Russell & Abbott President Chris Hurley. He’s pretty opinionated when it comes to home comfort, so I’ll lend him my spot one more time (but I do expect an extra treat for my generosity). Chris has been in the HVAC business for more than 20 years. He’s a state-licensed heating and AC contractor, as well as being certified in design, fabrication, layout, and installation of forced-air heating and cooling systems. Here’s what Chris has to say about Wi-Fi enabled thermostats:

Dealing with High Humidity in Spring and Summer

Monday, April 4th, 2016

When it comes to staying cool during the heat, we dogs handle things a bit differently than you humans do. Your bodies release heat through perspiration along the pores of your skin, which helps make your body cooler. Dogs are only able to sweat through our paws, which isn’t enough to really cool us down—especially since we have fur coats. To help make up the difference, we pant. Panting lets us circulate air through our bodies, and this helps keep us cool. Something else that helps keep our bodies cooled down is drinking water, so make sure during hot temperatures that you always have ample water available for your dog! Otherwise, your dog will go find a large body of water and just leap into it! And then shake itself out in the middle of the living room.
