Olive Reflects on Valentines from Customers

Monday, February 11th, 2019

I want to tell you a Valentine’s story. This tale about relationships begins in an unexpected location—the Russell & Abbott breakroom, a rectangular concrete space with a laminate floor, shelves, a refrigerator and microwave, and a long table that will seat about twenty people. Just setting the scene—I hope it hooked you—but I digress.

A few Saturdays ago, the whole Russell & Abbott team came together there for a half-day training session. Of course, I attended, not only because it’s my job as a team member and resident canine blogger, but because they always serve food at training meetings, and more often than not, I receive ear scratches and multiple bites of ham biscuits under the conference table!

Because Russell & Abbott is always striving to provide the best customer service possible, team members were challenged with the question, “What do you do to create an exceptional customer experience?”

Team members started by contributing ideas such as “being on time” and “wearing shoe covers.” Then one team member said something profound: “Customers make the call exceptional for us, too,” he stated.

“Customers give us an exceptional experience. Let’s explore that,” said company president Chris Hurley.

The stories of kindness and consideration started flying! While we Tennesseans may be accustomed to displays of southern hospitality, many of our customers truly have gone above and beyond to enrich our business relationship. Here are just a few ways customers have shown love on the job:

  • Homeowners have served fresh, hot coffee on a frigid day or ice-cold lemonade and soft drinks during a blistering heat wave.
  • Homeowners have made water and restroom facilities available to us.
  • They have carried homemade cookies and soft drinks to us.
  • Photos of us working have been taken and posted to our Facebook page with nice comments.
  • Handwritten thank you notes have arrived in the mail.
  • Homeowners have referred their friends and family to Russell & Abbott.

On a difficult, all-day installation, one homeowner fired up the grill, cooked a hamburger lunch, and even made time to sit and visit with us while we ate. By day’s end, we were friends!

And this canine speaks for the whole team when I say, it feels like Valentine’s Day every time we get a five-star review with a specific comment about how we exceeded a customer’s expectations. I just can’t wag my tail hard enough when I read those!

So, thank you! It goes without saying that we love our customers—but I’m going to say it anyway. Russell & Abbott loves our customers. And on this Valentine’s Day, it’s wonderful to know that our love is returned.

Warmest Regards,

Olive

Miranda Clark Receives Scholarship from Russell & Abbott

Thursday, August 2nd, 2018

Miranda Clark receives the Russell & Abbott from President Chris Hurley.

Miranda Clark of Maryville is the recipient of Russell & Abbott Heating and Cooling’s essay contest. She received a $500 scholarship toward tuition and books. “The essay topic was about the importance of online reviews for service-based businesses such as heating and cooling companies, and how to engage positive feedback,” said Chris Hurley, Russell & Abbott President. “Miranda did a very good job with her analysis, suggestions and written presentation of her ideas.”

Clark, a 2016 graduate of William Blount High School, is the daughter of John and Kristy Clark, and is a rising junior at the University of Tennessee—Knoxville where she is majoring in accounting. Olive Is a TV Star!

Tuesday, June 12th, 2018

If you’ve been watching the local cable TV, you may have noticed there’s a new superstar on the small screen: me!

Yes, if you’ve always wanted to see me in full action, hanging out in one of the company vans and showing up on a service call, you can catch me in our new Russell & Abbott television spots that started airing last month. I had a great time shooting this, especially where I get to ring the front doorbell. I insisted on at least four takes in order to get this shot just right.

Don’t worry, I won’t let this stardom go to my head. I donated my acting wages to a local animal shelter. We also had a stand-in dog working with me who was a rescue from Labrador Retriever. However, I think there’s potential in a CSI-style show where I play a HVAC dog detective who helps find out what’s wrong with the cooling or heating in a house. We could call it Hot Summer—Cool Dog, or … you know what, I’ll get back to you on that.

Stay cool,

Olive

Need help with your air conditioning this summer? Russell & Abbott serves Blount, Knox and Loudon Counties and the surrounding areas.

Patriotism Never Goes Out of Style

Monday, June 4th, 2018

As our blogger dog, I wear many hats and many styles around the year. During the summers, I like to put on my Uncle Sam stovepipe hat, like you see here. But just because I wear this hat during summer doesn’t mean patriotism is only in fashion at one time of the year. The truth is that patriotism never goes out of style! That’s not just something I believe. It’s something all of us here at Russell & Abbott believe.

The Fourth of July—a.k.a. Independence Day—is a celebration of tradition, our families, our homes, and our service to God and country. These are all values that Russell & Abbott respects. After all, we’re in this business to be a service to the community—seeing that homes and families have the comfort they need. We take our community service seriously, and it extends to outside of the business: many of the members of our Russell & Abbott family are part of civic clubs and non-profit organizations.

Chris Hurley Inducted into The Daily Times Wall of Fame!

Friday, May 11th, 2018

Chris-HurleyIt’s time for me to be a bit of a braggart. Well, I’m bragging about somebody else—so that’s okay, right? I’ve bragged about him before, and I’ve even let him handle some guest posts when my paws were worn down from skittering around on rough sidewalks. He’s our own president, Chris Hurley—and he’s just been inducted into the Daily Times Wall of Fame for his years of business leadership in Blount County. He was honored on Monday night at the 33rd Annual Daily Times Academic Awards held at the Clayton Center for the Arts.

The Wall of Fame honors Blount County leaders in business, government, and service. The Daily Times selected Chris for this honor because of his involvement in community activities for more than a decade. As a member of the Leadership Blount Class of 2013, he helped to develop the Blount Count Youth Court and mentored peer jurors. Through Russell & Abbott, he’s supported different fundraising groups, such as the Blount County Animal Center and Habitat for Humanity.

In 2017 alone, Chris led all of us at Russell & Abbott to donate nearly $80,000 through direct contributions, in-kind services, and volunteer hours. Chris is also a founding member of the Compassion Christian Counseling Center and serves in leadership roles with Family Promise, a church-based program that aids homeless families.

We’re all of us proud to have Chris as our president and to help him set a great example to the local community!

Russell & Abbott provides air conditioning, heating, indoor air quality, and commercial HVAC services throughout Maryville, Knoxville, Alcoa, Blount County, Knox County, and Loudon County.

Cool Down at Some Hot Events!

Tuesday, August 1st, 2017

At Russell & Abbott, we’ve always taken immense pride in being part of the local community. That’s why we can deliver such fantastic customer service: the people who call on us are our neighbors, and many of them become friends as well. The air conditioning equipment we supply to homeowners is the same that we use in our own homes—so we know exactly what an individual home needs for the best in comfort.

I’m thrilled to announce that we’re going to be at a number of upcoming late summer events here in Blount County. And we’ll be bringing along our “Ice Box,” a place where you can come inside and chill out with a powerful air conditioning system—just like the many air conditioning systems we install for our customers.

Check out our schedule below! We’d love for you to drop by and help support the community along with us! You can step out of the heat into our Ice Box when you need it!

Olive Reveals the Dark and Dirty Secret about Your Home Comfort System

Monday, April 3rd, 2017

A lot of folks in my industry don’t really want to talk about the #1 Reason for system failure. But let me give you a hint: when I say it’s a “dark and dirty” secret, I do mean dirty! And trust me, dogs know dirty!

That’s right. It’s not age. Or brand. Or weather hazards. Or constant adjustments of the thermostat. Nope. The #1 Reason for system failure is dirt.

When you think about it, it should be no surprise why this reason isn’t exactly well-known among dog owners, ahem–homeowners.  The fact is, a new system costs thousands of dollars. Yet regular maintenance to prevent system failure is just pennies on the dollar. Get the picture?

So that’s why Russell & Abbott Heating and Cooling is making a strong effort to let this secret out of the bag.

At Russell & Abbott, we feel it is our ethical duty to show you how to: A) Save money, B) Save time and C) Save you hassle and headaches.  And you can help us help you by clicking to schedule our 21-Point “Energy Saver” Tune-Up. Here’s why…

  • Your system gets fully cleaned, adjusted and reset to factory spec. It’s the same principle as servicing your car on a regular basis or in getting regular vet check-ups for us furry family. It keeps us running in tip-top shape and helps you pinpoint any trouble spots.

Doggone it! What are you waiting on? We have a wonderful offer, but it won’t be around long! Here are just some of the things you’ll receive:

  • You’ll get a carbon monoxide test on your system. This is an odorless gas that puts families in real risk if not detected. (a priceless value that typically costs $97.)
  • A full tune-up. (a $99 value.)
  • Chemical cleaning of indoor and outdoor coils. (a $279 value.)
  • Repair-Free Guarantee. If you need any repairs over the next 90 days after your tune-up, we’ll refund every single penny of the tune-up’s cost!
  • 100% Return on Investment Guaranteed. Save your tune-up cost in energy usage over the next 90 days (compared to the same period last year), or we’ll pay you the difference.

With all the other extras we throw in, your full service tune-up is a $473.00 value – that we’re offering right now for just $97. This special offer expires on May 5, so hurry!

Now that the secret’s out, take the logical step in true home comfort. Do it now before the hot season makes your system work even harder.

Just fill out this form online, email us at info@cleanaircomfort.com or give us a call at (865) 982-5133. It really is that simple!

Stay comfortable,

Olive

Support the Blount County SPCA This Season!

Tuesday, December 6th, 2016

One of my jobs here at MK Russell & Abbott as the “HVAC Dog Who Blogs” is keeping track of various charities and community organizations that we participate in. Believe me, we do so much that I could make this my full time job. (If I had my wish, my full time job would be napping, but I understand that’s not a responsible wish.)

There’s one charity that’s especially important to me, and that’s the SPCA—the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. This organization has been around a long time, more than 190 years! The SPCA is involved all around the globe with animal rescue, shelter building, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and more.

Voting: It’s Vital in More Ways Than You May Think

Monday, November 7th, 2016

A few years ago I recall napping near the television set and catching a bit of a stand-up act. The comedian was joking about voting… particularly how proud he was that he didn’t vote. This bothered me, and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t actually have the right to cast a ballot. (Pet enfranchisement hasn’t happened yet, but we’re working on it. “Paws to Vote” is my suggestion for our slogan.) Voting is one of the most important tasks we have as citizens: exercising this is a right, but it should also be a joy. And right now, the day before a general election, is the time to remind everyone about this important duty to your local community, your city, your county, your state, and your country.
